Healthy Movement

Tai Chi Class

Studies have shown that a sedentary lifestyle can be a contributing factor in many serious health issues like obesity and diabetes.  Thanks to a grant from the Catholic Foundation, we are excited to be offering a new exercise program to offer opportunities to move and interact with other people in our community.

The program called “Healthy Movement on the Neareast Side” offers free dance and tai chi classes.  The program started last fall and continues  until June 2010. The classes are held in Campion Hall (2nd floor of the St John Center).

The dance classes are held Monday evenings from 7:00-8:30pm and are     led by Tony West of the Imani West Dancers. Tai Chi, which is a eastern martial arts exercise that focuses on both physical and mental well-being.  It’s objective is to relieve stress and bring peace of mind. The classes are taught by Berta Castellanos and are offered Friday & Saturday afternoons from 1-2pm.
